Our philanthropy, The Alpha Phi Foundation, works closely with the American Heart Association. Heart Disease the most common killer of women with 1 of 3 deaths each year (That’s twice as many deaths than all types of cancer combined!). For nearly 50 years, Alpha Phi has focused on women's cardiac health as a philanthropic priority. The Foundation generously supports programs that perpetuate life-long pride and loyalty among Alpha Phis, and positively impact the lives of all women. The Foundation is well known and respected internationally as a prominent leader for the Greek community and as an important funding source of education in women’s cardiac health, leadership development and philanthropy.

KING OF HEARTS:
King of Hearts is our spring philanthropy and won “Philanthropy of the Year” from the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life at UConn’s Greek Awards Ceremony. In this event, each fraternity sends one of their members to compete for the title of the Alpha Phi King of Hearts.

KARAOKE PHI-VER:
Karaoke Phi-ver is Alpha Phi’s fall philanthropy. We host a karaoke competition among members of different greek organizations as well as throughout campus. We raise money for Cardiac Care through registration fees, raffle tickets, tabling, and admission. Last year our judges included UConn Football Players, members of Greek Life, and even the Husky Dog Mascot! The event is really fun and laid back and is a favorite on campus.

HUSKYTHON:
Huskython was founded in 1998 by the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life. It has now expanded from Greek Life to the largest philanthropic even on UConn’s campus. The event raises money for the Connecticut Children’s Medical Center and the Children’s Miracle Network. UConn students stand on their feet for 18 hours to raise funds and show support to children with disabilities. Alpha Phi is honored to take part in this event and has helped UConn’s efforts to raise over $100,000 for these philanthropies.

RED DRESS GALA:
The Red Dress Gala is a formal ball that many Alpha Phi’s host to raise money for Cardiac Care. Last year we had members attend the local Alumni Chapter’s Gala and we are looking to add this event to our list of philanthropies as well. Many celebrities and fashion designers have supported cardiac care by designing red dresses and incorporating them into runway shows to aid in raising money for the American Heart Association.

Greek Philanthropies:
We actively participate in philanthropies held by other chapters and other organizations on campus. Events include, Sigma Alpha Epsilon’s Powderpuff, Delta Gamma’s Anchor Slam, Kappa Alpha Theta’s 5KO Walk, Sigma Chi’s Derby Days, Kappa Kappa Gamma’s Price is Right, Zeta Beta Tau’s car smashing, Delta Zeta’s Turtle Kick, The Red Cross, and Eco-Husky just to name a few. Alpha Phi Sisters are participating in service projects and philanthropies almost every weekend.
